CBSE at NIS
The NIS Learning Approach
Education at NIS moves beyond textbooks and tests. Our classrooms replace the traditional one-way teaching style with a multi-directional, workshop-based learning model, where students actively participate, discuss, and explore ideas together.
Teachers act as facilitators — guiding each child to think critically, express themselves clearly, and discover their strengths without the stress of rote learning or excessive homework.
Key Learning Highlights:
- Emphasis on oral and written communication skills.
- Home assignments designed to nurture creativity and independent thinking, not repetition.
- Interdisciplinary projects conducted every term to integrate multiple subjects and skills.
- Continuous assessment and feedback to encourage steady improvement.
Middle School Curriculum (Classes VI–VIII)
Our Middle School Programme broadens horizons with a balanced mix of academic rigor and co-curricular learning. In addition to the core subjects, students engage in hands-on experiences that spark creativity, curiosity, and confidence.
Curriculum Highlights:
- Academic subjects aligned with CBSE guidelines and the National Curriculum Framework.
- Second and third language options: Hindi, French, or Telugu (Hindi mandatory as per CBSE norms).
- English as the primary language of instruction and first language.
- Co-curricular activities including Art, Music, Dance, Robotics, Science Club, Literary Club, and Home Science.
- Emphasis on Computer Education and Sports, promoting both mental and physical growth.
This balanced approach helps students build analytical thinking, aesthetic appreciation, and social responsibility — essential for 21st-century learners.
Assessment & Evaluation
Our CBSE-aligned assessment methodology ensures fair, transparent, and standardized evaluation across all grades. The system promotes conceptual understanding over memorization and helps track progress continuously throughout the academic year.
Assessment Structure:
- Academic year divided into two terms.
- Each term carries 100 marks, including written tests and internal assessments.
- Pen-and-paper test weightage: 90% (80 marks for term exams + 10 marks for periodic assessments).
- 10 marks awarded for notebook submission and subject enrichment activities.
- Gradual syllabus integration from Classes VI–VIII (10%–30% of previous term), and 100% syllabus coverage for Classes IX and X.
- Board Examination (Class X) mandatory as per CBSE regulations.
This model ensures continuous learning, regular feedback, and preparation for higher academic challenges.
