Niraj International School is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education. At NIS, a uni-directional method has been increasingly substituted by a multi-directional group workshop method. Here, the teacher becomes the group coordinator, initiating work, nurturing students, without the phobia of examinations and homework. Development of oral and written expression is emphasized upon. Home assignments are not a carry-over of class work, but oriented towards honing individual talents. Interdisciplinary projects are conducted once every term, to integrate the learning process.

From class VI to class VIII, the curriculum is so diverse that in addition to the academic subjects, it incorporates a variety of co-curricular activities, encourages creativity, adventure and helps develop a sense of aesthetics. English is the medium of instruction and also the first language. In addition to English, second and third language options are Hindi, French or Telugu. Hindi needs to be opted as the second or third language compulsorily, as per CBSE guidelines. Third language is offered till class VIII. The co-curricular activities include Art, Music, Dance and various Club activities like Robotics, Science, Literary and Home Science Club. Great emphasis is laid on computer education and sports too.

The new assessment methodology aims at standardizing teaching and evaluation across schools. The new scheme has two terms, but the pen-paper test weightage will now be 90%, which includes the 80 marks of the half yearly or yearly exam and 10 marks of the 20 marks, set aside for periodic assessment in each term. Each term will be of 100 marks, of which 10 marks will be for note book submission and subject enrichment (five marks each) under periodic assessment.

The half-yearly (term 1) exams for all the classes from VI onwards will be based on syllabus covered till the exam time. The syllabus for yearly exams will have a slightly different format. These exams will increasingly cover more of term 1 syllabus, starting with 10% for class VI, 20% for class VII and 30% for class VIII and 100% for class IX & X. Board exams are mandatory for class X covering 100% syllabus.
